Oakbrook Church started in the fall of 2007 as a church plant from Northbrook Church in Richfield. Twenty years earlier, Northbrook Church was a church plant from Elmbrook Church in Brookfield.
Bob and Martha Robinson, who were previously on staff at Northbrook served as the church planters and original pastors of Oakbrook. Their vision was to reach lost people in the Sussex area with the love of Jesus through a new local expression of the church.
Initially Oakbrook gathered in Sussex area schools – first Maple Avenue Elementary and then Woodside Elementary.
After several years, Bob and Martha Robinson left and were followed by Jerry Michaelson. In 2014, he led the move into the current facility in the Sussex Plaza, just down the road from Quad Graphics and around the corner from Hamilton High School.
In 2015, Oakbrook hired Troy Thomas to serve as lead pastor. Troy was previously on staff at Elmbrook Church and also at Kettlebrook Church in West Bend, another church plant from Northbrook Church.
