Jesus himself tells us that he “did not come to be served, but to serve” (Mark 10:45). At Oakbrook Church, our desire is to use the gifts and abilities God has given to each of us to serve not only in the church, but to serve in the community of Sussex and the world as well.
Serving others requires us to “empty our cup” and put someone else before ourselves. Yet in doing so, it’s common to find that we have never been so full (amazing how God does that, huh?). As we serve with others, we connect with other people and form relationships that last a lifetime.

Serve the Community
Whether it be helping with crafts at a Village event, running a game booth at the Bunny Lunch, or being a course guide for the “I Run the Village 5K”, there are always ways to volunteer and help the Village of Sussex put on one of their many awesome events. Serve at the Sussex Food Pantry helping customers shop and bag their groceries. Shift runs from 5-7pm — includes training. Must be 13 years old to volunteer. Contact Pastor Troy for more information.

Serve the Church
Do you love people and enjoy brightening their day? The Greeter team gives you a great opportunity to meet new people, bring a smile to their face, and welcome them to Oakbrook. Greeters serve 1-2 times per month. Contact Julie Hammel for more information.
Our Usher team doesn’t just hand out bulletins and tell people where they can sit. They welcome everyone into the sanctuary and make it easier for us to worship. Ushers serve 1-2 times per month. If you like to help people feel welcomed and comfortable, contact Mike Murphy.
If you have a passion for music and using your musical talents to guide others into worship, contact Aaron Hale
If you like being behind the scenes and “in the know”, the Audio/Visual team is a great way to serve in a fun, action-packed way. Absolutely no experience is necessary and training is provided. Contact Scott Daniel

Our Count Team works in pairs to count the offerings after 2nd service on Sunday mornings. Serve 1-2 times per month. No accounting or financial experience necessary. Must be a member of Oakbrook Church. Contact Byron Turk
Be a part of sharing what God is doing at Oakbrook Church by joining the Social Media Street Team. Just like, comment and share Oakbrook’s Facebook posts to help the post get seen by more people. The best part is that you don’t even have to get out of bed to do it. For more info, contact Greg Hahn.
Children are a joy to the Lord. If that’s your philosophy, consider serving as a teacher, shepherd, or helper with our Oakbrook Acorns children’s ministry. Teaching materials and curriculum provided. A background check is required. Contact Amy Nolan.
